Cap Trend in General

Nespresso pioneered the cap trend. Who would have thought that we would drink coffee from caps one day? Today, almost every second European household has a Nespresso machine and caps. Whether young or old – everybody knows coffee caps. The tea industry is following already and we do have tea caps as well. On the one hand, lot of people criticize the environmental pollution but on the other hand, there is no diminishment in consumption. “Cap Households” spend about € 60-70 per kilogram of coffee.

Why the Cap Trend Gained Traction

Since we live in a fast moving society, everything has to happen very fast and simple. Naturally, we expect a correlating quality – in this case taste. The result for the hot beverage market: coffee caps. Consumers are undeterred by the price or the environmental pollution when using caps. Although, it has to be mentioned that there are recycling system for the caps. The cap trend does not stop with coffee and tea – caps and TABs are already available for the cold beverage market as well.

Innovation for the Cold Beverage Market

Not only known companies like SodaStream and Green Mountain Keurig work on innovative ideas for the cold beverage market – to mention that these two companies focus explicitly on innovative cap solutions for stationary usage. Numerous companies on the global market concern oneself with innovations for the cold beverage market, at the same time there are different approaches to solution. At the most, it is about innovative bottle tops in combination with a specially designed bottle that offer Postmix systems. The innovative approach here is the functional bottle top that releases substances into the bottle by activation.

Why Innovative Bottle Tops

Primarily, these innovations come with drinks that contain vital substances. It is taken as a starting point that Postmix systems enable a fresher taste in comparison to regular already mixed drinks. The innovative tops contain very often a reservoir with powdery or fluid concentrates, which are being activated by pushing or screwing and released into water. Consumer tests show that this innovative solution goes down differently. On the market available innovations are criticized on handling, taste and esthetic when mixing water with substances. The reason for this is probably that the inventions were not well engineered. Nevertheless, the TASTETOP technology is not to be compared with the existing product innovations. The real innovative solution of the TASTETOP technology lies in the enhancement by flow rate – it is not a Postmix system. The content of TABs does not flow back into the bottle – in the bottle is always water and the substances stay in the TAB.

Handling of the TASTETOP invention does not require any shaking or activation, the taste will be aligned to already known flavors, respectively nutritional supplements would be provided by specialized companies where the composition has market acceptance. Further, esthetics wouldn’t be an issue since water stays water and the TAB is hidden in the top.
